Get real, mum and dad!

Most of us are now more than happy to do our bit for the environment – we sort our recycling, use our food waste collections and take unwanted items to charity shops.

However, using cloth ‘real’ nappies may be seen by some parents as a step too far and if we were talking about the kind of simple terry towel cloth squares they probably have in mind we’d understand why!

Nowadays, though, there are a range of stylish and sustainable real nappies on the market, and you can choose from slim fitting, low rise, high cut, the possibilities are endless!! As its Real Nappy Week this week we’re encouraging our readers to get real by giving real nappies a go.

As well as being by far the trendier option, using real nappies is great for reducing the amount of waste you produce and is also great on the on your bank account. Check out the figures:

–      In a two and a half year period a baby will go through around 5,000 nappies which will cost parents approximately £800. This equates to around 156 black bags and weighs roughly the same as a family car.

–      If you choose to use real nappies you can purchase everything online for about £80. Even if you add £1 for the extra load of washing you’ll need to do every week, you’ll be saving over £500.

Modern real nappies come in a range of colourful patterns and designs and are shaped just like disposable ones with poppers or Velcro to fasten them. Many parents who have tried both have also found that real nappies are often dryer.

Throughout Real Nappy Week many Local Authorities will be holding information sessions and some will even be handing out free samples, so there’s no better time to give them a go and see the benefits for yourselves.

For more information on what’s going on in your area and to find out more about using real nappies head over to the Real Nappy Campaign website.

If you do decide to give real nappies a go, let us know how you get on by leaving a comment or getting in touch via our Facebook page.

Don’t forget that we’re also running a week long real nappy competition this week with Mami Green. Take a look at our Twitter (@wastelesssavemo) and Facebook accounts for more details on how you could win a £30 gift voucher.

Rhowch gynnig ar gewynnau go iawn, mam a dad!

Erbyn hyn, mae’r rhan fwyaf ohonom yn fwy na pharod i helpu’r amgylchedd trwy ailgylchu, defnyddio gwasanaethau casglu gwastraff bwyd a mynd ag eitemau diangen i’r siop elusen.

Fodd bynnag, mae’n bosibl bod rhai rhieni yn credu bod defnyddio cewynnau lliain ‘go iawn’ yn mynd un cam yn ormod, gan feddwl efallai ein bod ni’n annog pobl i ddefnyddio sgwariau lliain terry syml o hyd!

Ond heddiw mae modd prynu amrywiaeth o gewynnau go iawn ffasiynol a chynaliadwy, gan gynnwys rhai ‘slim fitting’, ‘low rise’ a ‘high cut’ ymysg eraill. I ddathlu Wythnos Cewynnau Go Iawn yr wythnos hon, rydym yn annog ein darllenwyr i roi cynnig ar gewynnau go iawn.

Yn ogystal â bod yn fwy ffasiynol o lawer, mae cewynnau go iawn yn creu llai o wastraff ac yn dda i’ch cyfrif banc. Dyma’r ffeithiau:

–      Bydd babi yn defnyddio tua 5,000 o gewynnau dros gyfnod o ddwy flynedd a hanner, sy’n costio tua £800 i’r rhieni. Byddai hyn yn llenwi 156 o fagiau du ac yn pwyso tua’r un faint â char teulu.

–      Os ydych chi’n dewis cewynnau go iawn, gallwch brynu popeth sydd ei angen ar-lein am tua £80. Hyd yn oed ar ôl ychwanegu £1 yr wythnos am y golchi ychwanegol, byddwch chi’n dal i arbed dros £500.

Mae cewynnau go iawn modern ar gael mewn patrymau a chynlluniau amrywiol a lliwgar ac maent yr un siâp yn union â chewynnau tafladwy ond eu bod yn defnyddio popwyr neu felcro i’w cau. Mae llawer o rieni sydd wedi defnyddio’r ddau o’r farn fod cewynnau go iawn yn fwy sych yn aml.

Yn ystod Wythnos Cewynnau Go Iawn, bydd llawer o Awdurdodau Lleol yn cynnal sesiynau gwybodaeth a bydd rhai’n dosbarthu cewynnau go iawn am ddim, felly dyma’r amser gorau i roi cynnig arnynt a gweld y manteision eich hunain.

I gael rhagor o wybodaeth am beth sy’n digwydd yn eich ardal chi ac i ddysgu mwy am ddefnyddio cewynnau go iawn, ewch i wefan yr Ymgyrch Cewynnau Go Iawn.
